A public hearing focusing on the inspection and oversight of Savannah River Site’s MOX Fuel Fabrication Facility construction project is set for July 24, according to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The mixed oxide fuel facility is being built by Shaw Areva MOX Services to convert surplus weapons-grade plutonium into fuel for commercial nuclear reactors by blending it with uranium.
The NRC hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Hydrogen Research Center on the Savannah River Research Campus, 301 Gateway Drive, New Ellenton. Those attending will not be required to go through Savannah River Site security. NRC staffers will available to answer questions after the meeting.
