Big chill moving in tonight

Clear skies and warm temperatures will give way to colder, windy conditions as a cold front moves into the Augusta area Thursday night, according to Meteorologist Hunter Coleman with the National Weather Service in Columbia, S.C.

The afternoon temperature is expected to reach into the mid 60s with clouds rolling in this evening. Temperatures will drop very quickly overnight nearing the freezing mark. Friday’s high temperature will be in the upper 50s.

Windy conditions from Thursday should continue on Friday as southwest winds blow at 15 to 20 mph with gusts nearing 25 or 30 mph.

Temperatures will remain below normal for the weekend, with nighttime lows in the 20s and a high in the upper 50s for Saturday. A warming trend will return by Sunday and into Monday, Coleman said.
