Maryland teen found safe at Aiken bus station

Aiken Public Safety found a runaway 16-year-old girl from Harford County, Md., early Tuesday morning.

Lt. David Turno said officers found Bethany Eder at 2:41 a.m. at the bus station at 153 Pendleton St. NW by herself and determined she was the missing girl.

Bethany was reported missing at 9 a.m. Monday by her mother, Mary Celeste Eder, of Abingdon, Md., according to Monica Worrell, the spokeswoman for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

Mary Eder had called police after she found a note from Bethany saying she was leaving to “get a new start.” The mother said they had argued about a relationship Bethany was having with one of the teen’s co-workers, which Eder thought was inappropriate.

Turno said Bethany was traveling alone and was picked up by her parents Tuesday.
