Martinez woman hit while walking dog

A Martinez woman remains hospitalized Friday morning after being hit by a car while walking her dog Thursday evening.

Sherryl Christine Gaffney, 46, of Old Trail Road, is listed in fair condition at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Toni Baker said.

Just before 6 p.m., Gaffney was walking her dog next to the curb on Old Trail Road East, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s office accident report.

A westbound Dodge Neon, driven by 22-year-old Jeannen Renee Hobbs, of Fairfax Street in Martinez, hit Gaffney. She was thrown onto the car windshield, then onto the road, the report stated.

Gaffney was deemed at-fault for the wreck because she was walking the wrong way, with traffic instead of against it, the report stated.
