Rain, storms on the way in Augusta

Say goodbye to sunshine for a few days. Rain is coming.

A cold front is moving across the state through mid-week that will be bringing cooler, wetter weather.

The Augusta area has a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms Wednesday evening, but the greatest chance will come Thursday, according to Pam Tucker, the director of Columbia County emergency and operations division.

Meteorologists are predicting a 100 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday with cumulative rainfall amounts from 1½ to 2 inches. Higher amounts are possible in some areas.

Each day, highs are only expected to reach the mid- to upper-70s.

Although the chance of rain will wane by Friday, temperatures will remain cooler through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service forecast. By Sunday temperatures are expected to return to the 80s with no chance of rain.
