Augusta and Columbia, S.C., set new records Wednesday for lowest high temperatures.
Augusta reached 31 degrees, or 3 degrees lower than the old record on Jan. 29, 2005, according to the National Weather Service. But on that same date in 2013, the temperature was drastically different with a high of 80 degrees.
Columbia’s temperature of 32 degrees broke a more than 100-year record of 33 degrees set in 1904.
Temperatures are expected to increase gradually through the remainder of the week.
