Winds that could capsize small boats and cold that could kill budding crops have prompted multiple weather alerts across the region through Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a lake wind advisory and freeze watch for 16 counties in central Georgia and South Carolina.
The coverage area includes Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie, Burke, Chesterfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Richland, Lee, Aiken, Sumter, Barnwell, Orangeburg, Calhoun, Clarendon, and Bamberg counties.
The lake wind advisory is scheduled to remain in effect until 8 p.m. today, and the freeze watch will be overnight into Wednesday morning.
The weather service expects conditions to be mostly breezy through 8 p.m., with winds moving west at 15 to 25 mph.
The agency added that gusts could reach 30 mph.
Boaters are advised to stay off the water, and farmers are encouraged to cover sensitive vegetation.
