No snow for Augusta area in the forecast, officials say

The Augusta area will see some rain but shouldn’t be affected much by a winter storm system that is expected to drop a mixture of snow and ice on north Georgia over the next 24 hours, said Pam Tucker, director of Columbia County Emergency & Operations Division.

According to the National Weather Service, a strong low pressure system will move across the state today coupled with a steady stream of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, resulting in widespread rain across north and central Georgia. Temperatures will fall this evening, with a low of 35 degrees expected in Augusta.

Although light snow could be seen as far south as the Atlanta metro area, no accumulation is expected outside of the higher elevations of the mountains, Tucker said
