Augusta leukemia patient appears in St. Jude celebrity video

Augusta leukemia patient Brennan Simkins is one of many children featured with a host of celebrities in the new Hey Jude video released this week by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

Brennan helped inspire the Press On to Cure Childhood Cancer Fund, a national fundraising campaign that has given more than $1 million to pediatric cancer research.

The Memphis Business Journal reports that the hospital debuted its Hey St. Jude campaign with a YouTube video featuring celebrities, staff members and children singing the familiar Beatles tune.

“He had a big smile after seeing it for the first time (Tuesday) night,” said his father, Turner Simkins.

Brennan was filmed for the music video after a daylong commercial shoot in August with actor Robin Williams at a movie studio in San Rafael, Calif., Simkins said.

Celebrities shown in the video also include local favorite Lady Antebellum, Michael Jordan, Betty White, Keith Urban, Williams, Jennifer Anniston, Ellen DeGeneres, Darius Rucker and others singing the well-known Hey Jude refrain.

The video is part of the hospital’s yearlong celebration of its 50th anniversary.

The full-length commercial is being released after Thanksgiving as part of St. Jude’s Thanks and Giving holiday campaign, Simkins said.

Brennan, 10, has been in remission for acute myeloid leukemia since February 2011. He received four bone marrow transplants.
