Session to explore 'age-friendly' designation for Augusta

Augusta Commission member Bill Lockett is calling a work session Thursday to gauge interest in the city’s becoming an Age-Friendly Community and member of AARP’s Network of Age-Friendly Communities.

An AARP Age-Friendly Community “entails an inclusive and accessible urban or suburban environment that encourages active and healthy aging,” Lockett said in a news release. The designation means the city must commit to “a cycle of assessing and improving their age-friendliness,” it said.

The work session will be held at 1 p.m. in the commission chamber, 530 Greene St.
