A new Augusta Housing and Community Development hire goes before the city’s administrative services committee today for approval.
The candidate for HCD finance officer, unnamed in the agenda request, requires a salary between $70,000 and $73,000, according to Director Chester Wheeler.
The finance officer position was previously held by Wendy Ellis, who took home $70,860 annually, according to city records.
The job includes oversight of the millions in local, state and federal dollars that HCD funnels into various housing development and social welfare programs, all under U.S. Housing and Urban Development guidelines.
Wheeler said if the candidate’s pay requirement is not authorized, he will be forced to hire a consultant at two or three times the candidate’s hourly rate.
The hire is Item 3 of 19 on the administrative services committee, which goes last in line of five committees on commission committee meeting days that start at 12:45 p.m., but lately have run into the evening.
Item 11 is approval of a rotating schedule for committee meetings, which failed to pass at last week's commission meeting.
