ATLANTA -- Drivers will be able to recognize military heroes in traffic under legislation Rep. Bob Bryant plans to introduce.
Monday, he said he intends to amend current law that grants war veterans special license plates to include anyone awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star or Distinguished Service Cross.
Bryant, a Savannah Democrat, said he is introducing the bill at the request of Garden City Police Chief David Lyons.
Bryant served himself in the military during the Vietnam War and earned a few medals but none of the top honors for valor that would get a free, distinctive car tag.
“I don’t regret the fact that I’m not a hero,” he said with a smile.
The legislation would also grant the veterans and medal winners tags for their trailers as well. Now, they’re limited to tag for vehicles.
