More forums planned for Augusta mayoral candidates

 

 

Augusta voters who don’t know much about the candidates running for mayor have at least five more opportunities to see them debate issues at forums prior to the May 20 election.

Five candidates are seeking the mayor’s seat now held by Deke Copenhaver, who is term-limited. They are retired businessman Charles Cummings, entrepreneur Helen Blocker-Adams, state Sen. Hardie Davis, Commissioner Alvin Mason and language arts teacher Lori Myles.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Williams Memorial CME Church, 1630 15th St., is holding a mayor candidates forum.

At 6 p.m. April 14, Turpin Hill Neighbor­hood Association is holding a mayor candidates forum at the Car­rie J. Mays Community Center, 1014 11th Ave.

On April 17, East Augusta Neighborhood Association is holding a forum for the mayoral candidates and the three candidates who are seeking the May 20 Democratic nomination for the state Senate District 22 seat — real estate agent Elmyria Chivers, Mayor Pro Tem Corey Johnson and attorney Harold Jones -

The forum will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eastview Community Center, 644 Aiken St.

At 2 p.m. May 7, the senior citizen apartment complex St. John Towers, 724 Greene St., will also hold a forum for mayor candidates.

At 7 p.m. May 13, Augusta-Richmond County Committee for Good Government will hold a televised forum for mayor candidates at Julian Smith Casino Barbecue Pit, 3 Milledge Road.
