ATLANTA — Three Democrats have qualified for the Nov. 5 special election to finish the legislative term of Quincy Murphy, who died last month.
The field includes Murphy’s widow, Dianne Murphy, a 61-year-old teacher from Augusta; Diane Evans, a 52-year-old retired teacher from Avera; and 49-year-old military retiree Brian Prince, of Augusta.
Prince qualified Monday, the first day possible. Evans and Dianne Murphy signed up Tuesday. No one else qualified on Wednesday.
There is no primary. The election is open to all voters registered by Oct. 7 who live in House District 127, that includes parts of Richmond and Jefferson counties.
If no candidate takes a majority of the ballots cast, the top two will be in a runoff Dec. 3.
