Columbia County’s Board of Elections will meet Wednesday to begin selecting a successor to retired Director Deborah Marshall.
The board received 45 applications for the position by Friday’s deadline, Chairman Larry Long said.
“I’ll be presenting them to the board tomorrow,” he said, adding that he hasn’t reviewed them all but that he expects many of the applications to be winnowed out as unqualified.
“As I understand it, that is normally what they experience is that the initial group usually is not as impressive as those that will come in mostly at the last minute,” he said.
The position, as advertised, has a pay range of $53,718 to $80,576.
Marshall, who has been at home since having surgery on a malignant brain tumor in April, retired at the end of December.
The board hopes to name her successor by the end of February, Long said.
