Lee Anderson takes aim at John Barrow at Columbia County GOP breakfast

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner will visit Columbia County in October to help Republican candidate Lee Anderson in his bid to unseat Democratic incumbent John Barrow for the 12th Congressional District seat.

Anderson made the announcement at Saturday’s GOP breakfast at Fatz Cafe in Evans.

“Oct. 15th, we will have the speaker here,” Anderson said.

“Speaker Boehner will be here in Columbia County, helping me, helping us take over District 12. We’re excited about it.”

In remarks to a group of about 30 people, Anderson continued to question why his Democratic opponent will not publicly declare that he is voting for President Obama in November.

“My opponent has not yet to say that he is going to vote for Obama,” Anderson said. “I’m here to tell you, I’m going to vote for Mitt Romney.”

Anderson also emphasized the need to get government out of businesses and let businesses create jobs.

“Government was formed to protect the people, not create jobs,” he said.

He was also critical of federal health care reform.

“John Barrow has never voted to repeal Obamacare,” he said.

Anderson, a former Columbia County Commission member and state representative, said he was glad for the chance to speak to the group.

“This is family; this is where I grew up; this is home,” Anderson said.

“As I’ve said, I’ve always ran on Louisville Road as an elected official, as a candidate. Never lived nowhere else, never plan on living nowhere else. I believe in serving the people and being accessible.”
