The application period opened this week for annual Student, Teacher Achieving Results (STAR) grants administered by a Savannah River Site contractor for elementary schools in the area.
Savannah River Remediation, the site’s liquid waste contractor, administers the program to support teachers in their work to educate their students in math and science.
STAR grants are awarded directly to schools to buy science and math instructional materials that promote learning through problem solving.
Public elementary schools in Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield, and Orangeburg school districts in South Carolina, and Columbia and Richmond counties in Georgia are eligible to receive the funds.
Interested teachers should contact their school principals for more information. Applications must be received by April 12, 2012.
Grant winners will be recognized at a reception on May 24, 2012.
