Two Lakeside High School seniors tied Thursday to become Columbia County’s STAR students.
Katie Bollag and Mihir Patel each scored 2350 on the SAT to win the recognition.
The STAR Student award is given annually to the student scoring the highest on the SAT.
Those students then pick an influential educator in their lives as STAR teachers. Bollag chose Lilly Good and Patel picked Jerry Meitin for those honors.
In a reception held at the Harlem Woman’s Club, each STAR student and teacher from the county’s public and private high schools was honored.
Those students and teachers, respectively, were Garrett Sisson and Joseph Lutz of Augusta Christian Schools, Erin Brousseau and Tim Shafer of Augusta Preparatory Day School, Kevin Puha and Kathryn Nave of Evans Christian Academy, Helen Xiang and Lynn Pagano of Evans High, Brenton McCorvey and Anthony Cummings of Greenbrier High, Erin Chizmar and Tracy Roden of Grovetown High, and Danny Banks and Nicholas Hayes of Harlem High.
Bollag and Patel now will compete to become the STAR Student of Region 7 in a ceremony to be held next month in Thomson. A banquet in Atlanta will be held in April to announce the state winner.
