Richmond County inmate found hanged in cell identified

Coroner Mark Bowen has identified an Richmond County jail inmate who was found dead in his cell Monday.

Deputies at Charles B. Webster Detention Center found George Anderson Lee III, 24, of Brighton Circle in Augusta, after he appeared to have hanged himself in his cell. Deputies and medical staffers could not resuscitate him. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation of his death. An autopsy is scheduled at the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta this week.

According to court records, Lee was arrested in August on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and family violence battery.
