A GBI investigation has determined a 73-year-old man found dead on Sunday following a domestic dispute with a Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Lincoln County deputies were called to the Maxim Road home of Jerald Bell on Sunday afternoon for a domestic dispute at the request of his wife Sara, herself a Lincoln County deputy.
According to a news release, Sara Bell left the home to call for help. She was treated for injuries sustained during the dispute at University McDuffie Hospital in Thomson.
When deputies arrived at the home, they found Jerald Bell dead. The sheriff’s office then requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s involvement.
The state agency determined Jerald Bell took his own life following a physical altercation with his wife.
