34-year-old South Carolina man killed in wreck on Interstate 20 in Aiken County

A single-vehicle accident in Aiken County on Saturday morning claimed the life of a 34-year-old man, authorities said.

Al Miller, of North, S.C., was killed after losing control of his 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe about 6 a.m. while traveling west on Interstate 20 near mile marker 28, causing the vehicle to overturn and ejecting him from the driver’s seat, according to a statement from Coroner Tim Carlton.

He died from multiple body trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

Miller was traveling to Atlanta with Tara Chase, 34, of Columbia. Chase, who was wearing her seat belt, was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center for injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

According to the release, excessive speed and possible drug and alcohol use might be contributing factors to the wreck. A toxicology report on the driver is pending.
