Suspect asks for ride, then drives off in vehicle

An Augusta man who agreed to give another man a ride to an undetermined location Tuesday afternoon is now without his vehicle after he says the man drove off in his sport utility when the two men stopped for gas.

The victim told police he had agreed to give 21-year-old Terry D. Overstreet a ride to “the country” from the Augusta’s Best Inn in the 2800 block of Washington Road. But according to a report on the incident, when the two men pulled in for fuel at a British Petroleum station, he said he entered the store only to see Overstreet drive off in his white, 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee valued at $3,000.

The victim then gave chase as the vehicle stopped at a red light at the intersection of Stevens Creek Road and Washington Road, but the suspect turned east onto Washington Road and drove away, according to the report.
