Man shot twice in attempted robbery at home

An Augusta man was hospitalized Sunday after being shot twice during an armed robbery, police say.

Christopher Jones, 33, was shot in a home in the 1000 block of Kent Street, with Richmond County sheriff’s deputies called about 2 p.m., according to the incident report.

Patricia Johnson, 61, told police that she was watching television in the living room while her son, Jones, was talking to the suspect in a back room.

Jones told deputies that the suspect, who goes by Troy, met him in the back bedroom, brandished a black handgun and tried to rob him. After pushing the suspect off him, Jones said, the suspect fired at him while running toward the front door. Jones was shot in his left hand and thigh.

Deputies found several bullets holes in Jones’ house, along with blood spatter and shell casings.
