Man sought in Beech Island shooting

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office investigators have obtained warrants for the arrest of a man following a shooting Thursday in Beech Island.

Alex James Pitts, 21, is sought in the incident stemming from an ongoing feud between him and 35-year-old Ronald Mixon, according to a statement from Sgt. Jason Feemster.

The shooting occurred shortly after midnight when Pitts arrived at Mixon’s home on the 100 block of Cherry Lane in Beech Island. Pitts started an argument, Feemster stated, and then pointed a handgun at Mixon. Mixon grabbed an aluminum baseball bat and hit Pitts.

Pitts retaliated by shooting Mixon in the groin and left the residence, according to Feemster. Mixon was treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injury.

Pitts will face charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the statement said.

Anyone with information on Pitts can contact the Aiken County Sheriff’s office at (803) 648-6811. Individuals may also call Crimestoppers of the Midlands: 888-CRIME-SC (888-274-6372). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.
