Arrest made in Washington Road apartment shooting

Columbia County deputies arrested an Augusta man Tuesday afternoon in connection with a shooting that occurred early Monday morning at Westwood Club Apartments on Washington Road.

Trelon Baker, 20, was arrested at his residence, 73 Fox Trace, in Fox Den Apartments in Augusta, Capt. Steve Morris said.

Baker is being held at the Columbia County Detention Center and is being charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, commission of a crime with a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during a commission of a crime.

No bond has been set.

Jamal Antwan Fielding, 25, said he was sitting on a bench behind the complex’s clubhouse at about midnight when two men and two women approached him demanding cash and jewelry, Morris said.

After Fielding refused, Baker is accused of shooting him in the thigh.

After the shooting, Fielding ran to his apartment, where his girlfriend called 911. His injuries were non-life threatening.

Deputies are searching for the other three suspects.
