Update: Columbia County man reports shooting during holdup attempt at Westwood Club Apartments

An Evans man said he was shot in the leg early Monday after four people tried to rob him outside his apartment.

Jamal Antwan Fielding, 25, said he was on a bench behind the clubhouse at Westwood Club Apartments on Washington Road about midnight when two men and two women approached him and demanded cash and jewelry, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.

After he refused, one man shot Fielding in the thigh. The four people then ran away without stealing anything, Morris said.

Fielding described his assailants as a black man wearing a ball cap and a dark T-shirt with a cross, and a light-skinned black man wearing a black tank top with a larger gold chain with a cross and gold teeth.

The two black women appeared to be in their late teens. One was light-skinned wearing a light-colored T-shirt, and the other was dark-skinned and wearing a bun and tight shorts.

After the shooting, Fielding said, he ran to his apartment, where his girlfriend called 911, Morris said. His injuries are not life-threatening.
