Mother arrested with pot in car, police say

Richmond County sheriff’s deputies arrested an Augusta woman Saturday after she was found with 447 grams of marijuana in her car hidden near her children, a police report states.

About 9 a.m., deputies stopped a 2008 Toyota Camry with dark tinted windows in the 1500 block of Holley Street. Deputies smelled marijuana while talking to the driver, Nicole Denise Slappy, 23, of Brockdale Drive, the report said. A plastic bag with marijuana was found underneath a black blouse on a rear floorboard, the report said.

Slappy was booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, window tint violation and two counts of unrestrained children.

Her children, who were seated in the rear of the vehicle, were handed over to their grandmother.
