Sandersville man charged in death of woman found near garbage dump site



A Sandersville, Ga., man has been charged with killing a woman whose body was found near a garbage collection site in Wadley last month, police said Friday.

On Thursday, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Anthony Mereal Lemon, 37, on charges of murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, rape and aggravated sodomy, according to an e-mail from the sheriff’s office.

Lemon is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

About 11 a.m. on May 12, the body of 28-year-old Jamillah Mia Holmes, of Wadley, was found on River Road. Holmes suffered blunt-force trauma to the head, Jefferson County Coroner Edward James said last month.
