Thomson police chase ends in crash

A police chase Monday night in Thomson ended with a Grovetown man being airlifted to an Augusta hospital, according to Thomson Police Chief John Seay.

About 6:45 p.m. Monday, a Thomson police officer tried a traffic stop on a 2011 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle. The motorcycle had been stolen and was being driven by Robert Blake Purdue, 26, of 1255 Reynolds Farm Road, according to Seay.

Police said Purdue tried to elude them while traveling on Highway 221 at high speed. He lost control of the motorcycle about two miles east of the Thomson bypass and was airlifted to Georgia Regents Medical Center.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident. Purdue will be charged with theft by receiving, driving while license suspended or revoked, along with fleeing and attempting to elude police, Seay said.
