Woman charged after apartment fire

An Augusta woman is facing charges after a fire Sunday at a south Augusta apartment complex.

Christian Shaquane Jones, 24, was booked on five counts of first-degree arson, but police said additional charges are pending.

Firefighters were called about 6:30 p.m. to Glennwood Apartments, 2534 Lumpkin Road, where they found flames coming from one of the buildings. Five apartments were damaged, according to the sheriff’s office. Seventeen people were in the apartments at the times the firebegan, but no injuries were reported.

Jones, of the 3700 block of Lumpkin Road, was picked up by deputies soon after. A motive has not been disclosed.
