A person of interest in the first of four shootings on and near the Paine College campus turned himself in to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, Capt. Calvin Chew confirmed.
Christopher Jackson, 26, of Laurel Street, was being sought as a person of interest in a shooting around 4:45 p.m. Sunday in Paine’s Gray Hall.
Two drive-by shootings followed at Jackson’s home within several hours Monday morning. Another shooting happened soon after in Haygood-Holsey Hall on campus. JaJuan Baker, 21, of Wilmington, N.C., was critically wounded in the final shooting, suffering a gunshot wound to the head. Another student, Xavier Baker, 20, of DeKalb County, was charged in the Haygood-Holsey Hall shooting.
On Wednesday, Sheriff Richard Roundtree said the shootings might have stemmed from a drug deal gone wrong.
