Burke County vehicular homicide case ends with prison term

A Burke County man whose drunken-driving crash left one friend dead and a second paralyzed was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison.

Robert Taylor, 26, pleaded guilty in Burke County Superior Court to vehicular homicide and other charges filed in connection with the crash on McManus Road in March 2012. Dustin “Tyler” Durham, 20, died at the scene where Taylor lost control of his Pontiac TransAm and slammed into a tree at a speed estimated at more than 100 mph.

Judge James G. Blanchard Jr. accepted the plea recommendation. In addition to the prison term, Taylor will have 15 years to serve on probation once he is released.
