An Augusta woman died early Monday after she was stabbed during a domestic dispute, police say. A North Augusta man has been charged in her death.
The victim, Naty Ortiz-Ramos, 43, of Lumpkin Road, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:11 a.m., Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said. Her body will be sent to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
At 1:17 a.m., Richmond County sheriff’s deputies were called to apartment J2 at the Shadowood Apartment in the 2500 block of Lumpkin Road in reference to a stabbing, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies learned that Nathan Mims, 46, of Johnson Road, and Ortiz-Ramos were in a domestic dispute when he stabbed her several times, according to the statement.
After the assault, police say, Mims stayed at the scene and surrendered to deputies. He was treated for minor cuts and booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on charges of murder and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.
Ortiz-Ramos’ death is the eighth homicide in Richmond County in 2014.
