A Pennsylvania man arrested over the weekend for driving onto the grounds of the Augusta National Golf Club, was caught trying to do it again Monday, this time claiming to be the father of 2013 Masters Tournament champion Adam Scott.
Joseph John Murphy, 50, of Hatfield, Pa., first tried to get onto the grounds about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. An incident report said Murphy left on the advice of a security guard but returned 10 minutes later, driving past a gate and onto the property.
He was jailed on a criminal trespass charge, and was released Sunday after posting bond.
About 9 a.m. Monday, he returned to the course in a rented 2013 Mercedes Benz GL 450 and tried to enter through Magnolia Lane, according to an incident report.
He first claimed to be Scott’s father, but after a deputy recognized him from a photograph, he admitted he was not, according to the report.
Murphy was being held Monday at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on a new charge of misdemeanor criminal trespass.
