Student, 19, found with gun, drugs on school property

A 19-year-old Butler High School student was arrested Friday after police say he was found with drugs and a firearm on school property.

Earl Donte Jackson, 19, of Augusta, has been charged with felony counts of possession of a weapon on school grounds, possession of marijuana on school property and disrupting public school, according to Richmond County jail records.

About 11:50 a.m., a Richmond County Board of Education public safety officer found a .22-caliber handgun and less than an ounce of marijuana in Jackson’s 2007 Honda Accord, which was parked next to Butler’s gymnasium, according to an incident report.

Richmond County’s director of school safety Alfonzo Williams said his department will continue to investigate the incident.
