Arrests made in fatal shooting at Kroger

Blake facing murder charge

Six young men are in custody, one charged with murder, after a Thursday night shooting in a Kroger parking lot. Two more are being sought, police say.


According to Richmond County sheriff's investigators and the deputy coroner, Montravius Deshawn McNair, 18, of Covington, was shot several times just before midnight Thursday in the parking lot of the Kroger store at 3128 Deans Bridge Road.

Dequan Blake, 18, was charged Friday with felony murder and misdemeanor affray, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Also charged with misdemeanor affray were Elevonte J. Cooper, 19; Cordarius C. Ayers, 19; Daushun J. Ellis, 19; Jaques R. Woodard, 19, and Tydavius Z. Bradley, 19.

During the incident, Karl M. Kelly, 18, was wounded and taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to the hand. Kelly will be charged with misdemeanor affray after medical treatment is completed, according to the Sheriff’s Office. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The Sheriff’s Office was searching Friday night for two suspects: Napoleon J. Moss Jr., 19, , and Aquil J. Ferrell, 18, both wanted for misdemeanor affray.

The investigation is ongoing and details were withheld because suspects were still being sought, the Sheriff’s Office said Friday night.
