Jackson woman, 19, killed in wreck

A single-vehicle accident in Aiken County claimed the life of a 19-year-old Jackson, S.C., woman Tuesday, authorities say.

Ja’net Crawford, of North Silverton Road, died after losing control of her 2006 Chevrolet Colorado and striking a tree, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

About 3:20 p.m., Crawford was driving in the 2200 block of Green Pond Road when she lost control of the vehicle, Lance Cpl. Judd Jones, of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, said.

Between Desoto Drive and McElmurray Farm Road, Crawford’s pickup ran off the right side of the road, traveled back across to the left side, overturned in a steep embankment and struck a tree, Jones said.

Crawford, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was on her way home from a friend’s house on Gray Mare Hollow Road, Carlton said. Crawford was wearing a seat belt.

A toxicology report is pending, Carlton said.
