The fatal shooting of an Augusta man in the 400 block of Colorado Avenue is being investigated by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office as a homicide, according to a department news release.
The release stated that at 11:53 p.m. Monday, sheriff’s deputies answered a call about an injured person.
Deputies were told a man had been shot. He was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center.
Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen identified the victim as Willie Aiken Jr., 34, and said he was pronounced dead at 12:35 a.m. Tuesday from at least one gunshot wound.
Aiken’s body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiners Office in Atlanta for an autopsy Tuesday morning.
“This investigation is ongoing at this time,” said Sgt. Shane McDaniel.
