Police say they found a car with Pennsylvania tags and smoke billowing out of its windows Sunday in what appears to be a case of arson.
According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office report, Deputy Shane Van Dyke was conducting a routine business check at a storage facility about 10:50 a.m. when he found an abandoned 2009 Dodge Challenger near the end of Beaver Drive, which runs behind the business.
One of the car’s front seats had been doused in lighter fluid and set on fire, according to the report.
Van Dyke tried to contact the vehicle’s owner in Philadelphia but was unable to reach her over the phone. The car was taken to Chancey’s Wrecker Service for storage.
