Richmond County deputy wrecks during chase

A police chase late Saturday caused a Richmond County sheriff’s deputy to wreck, authorities say.

About 10:38 p.m., Richmond County deputies were called to assist the Georgia State Patrol in a chase involving two motorcycles, according to the sheriff’s office.

The chase began near Wrightsboro Road at North Leg Road. As the chase entered Columbia County, the motorcycles split up and deputies lost sight of them.

A Richmond County cruiser was damaged when the deputy struck a curb, breaking a ball joint.

One suspect was taken into custody near Walton Way at Lake Forest Drive, Williams said. Another was apprehended on Calhoun Expressway near Enterprise Mill, according to scanner traffic.

No suspects or deputies were injured in the chase.
