Police have arrested a Waynesboro man they say made his 7-year-old daughter stand watch while he stole copper wire from an Augusta home last month.
Ronald Jay Miller, 38, of Pine Needle Road, is charged with felony burglary in the first degree and misdemeanor cruelty to children, according to Richmond County jail records.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip that Miller had burglarized a home in the 2300 block of Laurel Lane with his daughter between Nov. 11 and Nov. 25, according to an incident report.
Investigators say Miller forced his way in through a utility access door. According to the report, Miller told his 7-year-old daughter to keep an eye out for the police while he burglarized the home.
The report says Miller took the stolen copper to Campbell’s Recycling Center, where he was paid $44.30.
The homeowner estimated the damage to be more than $5,000.
