Robbery suspect fires shot at deputy

Police say a man wanted in the Dec. 9 robbery of a Family Dollar store fired a shot at a Richmond County sheriff’s deputy Saturday before fleeing the scene of an armed robbery.

About 6:50 p.m., Bobby Earl Haynes, 54, brandished a firearm and demanded money from the clerk at AutoZone at 2946 Deans Bridge Road, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. A nearby deputy confronted him, and Haynes fired a shot in the deputy’s direction before fleeing toward Wheeless Road. The deputy was not injured.

Police say that in the robbery of Family Dollar at 2914 Deans Bridge Road, Haynes threw two registers on the floor and grabbed the money.

Haynes is considered “armed and extremely dangerous,” according to the statement. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (706) 821-1020 or (706) 821-1080.
