Vandals tag Department of Juvenile Justice building

Police say vandals threw paint on the side of the Department of Juvenile Justice building at 985 Broad St. sometime between Friday and Saturday.

Police say vandals poured paint and wrote expletives on the side of the Department of Juvenile Justice building downtown sometime between Friday and Saturday.

Richmond County sheriff’s deputies were called to the building at 985 Broad St. after John Bowen, the building’s manager, noticed white paint splattered on the outside wall of the building, according to an incident report.

Bowen told police expletives were written in the dry paint on the wall, and that he found an empty paint can near the same corner of the building. An empty paint bucket was left near the scene, but Bowen discarded it before deputies arrived.

When deputies arrived, the paint on the wall was dry. The paint on the ground was wet, leading Bowen to believe the incident happened within the last 24 hours.

Bowen said the building has a surveillence system, but he was unable to view the footage at the time.
