Bank robbed; deputy and 2 others hurt in wreck

Police were searching Wednesday for a man suspected of robbing the Suntrust Bank on Peach Orchard Road.


A Richmond County Sheriff’s deputy and two others were also injured in a wreck that happened when the officer was responding to the call about 2:30 p.m.

According to a news release, the robbery suspect is a black man with medium brown complexion, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 200 pounds. He wore a black mask and blue jeans with distinctive orange X’s on both back pockets.

Deputy Tommy King was traveling in the left eastbound lane of Lumpkin Road and approaching the intersection with Shelby Drive when a 19-year-old driver pulled into King’s path from Shelby Drive, according to the release.

King’s vehicle struck the side of the 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage. King, the 19-year-old driver and her 20-year-old passenger were taken to Georgia Regents University Medical Center.

King was treated and left the hospital later Wednesday. The names of the others involved in the wreck were not released.
