Plane crash victim identified


Authorities have identified a Graniteville man as the pilot killed in a plane crash Monday night in Edgefield County, S.C.

Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett said the pilot was 56-year-old Richard Showalter. An autopsy is being conducted today.

Authorities said he was the sole occupant of the twin-engine Piper Aztec plane in the crash on Rachel Avenue near Twin Lakes Airport at Trenton, S.C.

Several homes lining the airstrip were hit but none was damaged.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.

A cause for the crash has not been released.
