Investigation continues in doctor's death

Dr. Mann

Police said Monday they are continuing to conduct interviews and collect evidence into the death of a Barnwell, S.C., surgeon whose body was found Saturday in a Richmond County creek.

The sheriff’s office arrested a suspect Saturday but has yet to make public a motive in the death of Dr. Charles Mann III, 60.

Glenn Vincent Riggs II, a 22-year-old with several misdemeanor warrants against him, has been charged with murder and robbery by force in the case. Police believe Mann was killed at Riggs’ residence in the 2600 block of Dublin Drive.

The surgeon, who usually returned home on weekends to his home in Kathleen, Ga., south of Macon, was last seen Thursday. His blue 2006 Honda Civic was found in a wooded area on Old Louisville Road on Friday and his body was later recovered in Spirit Creek at Willis Foreman Road.
