Police say an Augusta woman was tied to a bed and held at knifepoint while being robbed Saturday afternoon.
The victim, Betty Jean Moss, 64, told Richmond County sheriff’s deputies that she and a friend went to the Wooden Barrel bar at Peach Orchard Road on Friday where she met a man named “Scott,” according to a sheriff’s office incident report.
The man, described as being a 5-foot-8 white male in his 50s, told Moss that he was traveling and had no place to stay for the night. Moss then invited him to sleep at her apartment at the Bon Air for the night.
About 2 p.m. Saturday, Moss said the man brandished a knife and tied her hands with a pair of shoe laces, tied her right leg to a bed and stuffed her mouth with panty hose, the report said. Moss told police the man demanded money and said that he had killed women before.
The man stole $40 in cash and nearly $200 worth in jewelry before leaving the apartment. Moss said she struggled for more than 20 mintues to loosen her binds and alerted police by pulling an emergency cord near her bed.
According to the report, deputies viewed surveillance video and saw a man matching the suspects description entering the apartment’s elevator.
The man was last seen wearing blue jeans, a red shirt, a black or blue hat and was holding a red and blue jacket. The report says the suspects has tattoos on his fingers.
