An Aiken County man suspected in at least two area carjackings was arrested Tuesday morning by Richmond County sheriff’s deputies.
John Henry Blocker, 49, was booked into the Richmond County Detention Center about 5 a.m. on five outstanding charges, two each for carjacking and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and one for receiving stolen goods.
Capt. Eric M. Abdullah, spokesman for the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, said Blocker will be held without bond until he can appear before a judge and be extradited back to South Carolina.
Abdullah said all charges, which stem from three separate crimes on Sept. 10, Oct. 15 and Oct. 20 in Aiken County, remain under investigation.
The most recent incident occurred about 6:20 p.m. Sunday when a man pointed a gun at a woman as she parked at Bi-Lo in Clearwater and demanded she exit the vehicle. She ran to the store as the man drove off in her 2000 Nissan Maxima.
Abdullah said Richmond County has recovered the victim’s car from that incident.
Investigators say Blocker also flagged down a vehicle on Outing Club Road about 11:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and forced out the driver. He fired several shots before leaving in the white 1989 Cadillac Eldorado.
