1 killed, 4 injured in Thomson single-vehicle rollover

THOMSON — One person was killed and four others injured in a single-vehicle rollover in McDuffie County on Monday morning.

A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Christopher B. Williams, of Pendleton, S.C., southbound on Washington Road in Thomson swerved to miss a truck and went airborne before rolling, according to the Georgia State Patrol. A witness told officers that the truck was traveling faster than 80 mph.

Four passengers in the truck were not wearing seat belts and were ejected, Trooper Steve Shelton reported. Jesus Garcia Gonzalez, 35, of Gainesville, Ga., was in the front seat and was killed.

Hernandez Geraldo, 28, Jacoby McNeal, 54, Onofer Martinez, 39, and Williams, 30, were injured and taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center in Augusta.

Hospital spokeswoman Denise Parrish said Williams was in fair condition Monday afternoon. Geraldo and McNeal were treated and released on Monday. A condition status wasn’t available for Martinez.

The trooper said all are employees of McNutt Service Group, a concrete finishing company in North Carolina. Shelton said Williams was driving on a suspended license for a DUI conviction.

Charges are pending. Shelton said Williams could be charged with vehicular homicide.
