Town hall meeting to focus on juvenile justice system


State Sen. Hardie Davis and Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Avery Niles will visit youth facilities in the Augusta area Monday before holding a town hall meeting.

According to a news release, the purpose of the meeting is to discuss recent changes in the state’s juvenile justice system and the juvenile justice reform bill that passed in the 2013 legislative session. Portions of the bill become effective Jan. 1.

Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree, Juvenile Court Judge Douglas Flanagan and Mayor Deke Copenhaver will also be at the meeting.

The 6 p.m. meeting is at the Augusta Library, 823 Telfair St.
